Riggs’ Family Hosts Sixth Annual Production Sale

Friedens, PA (November 14, 2006). Bill and Dan Riggs continued in the tradition of their father, Sidney, and hosted the sixth annual Angus Production Sale at ErReR Hill Farms on Saturday, November 11, 2006. Sidney Riggs, who passed away last September, had a passion and vision for breeding Angus cattle and was extremely successful in making his program one of the finest in the country. Bob Hay, the farm manager and Sidney’s nephew, said, “While we probably can’t match the enthusiasm level that Sidney brought to our farming operations, we will do our best to continue the Riggs’ family tradition in the Angus business and strive to make his herd better and even more nationally recognized as a tribute to the work he started.”

Close to 300 Angus breeders attended the auction in Lincoln Township. The top three sellers included the calf, EHF Blackbird G139, which sold for $14,500, a half interest in Whitestone Blackcap that sold for $14,000 and a heifer pregnancy, who will be born next February, was sold for $10,000. The Riggs’ family will donate the proceeds from the heifer pregnancy to the Pennsylvania Junior Angus Association in memory of Sidney Riggs. At the end of the auction, 110 Angus cows were sold and many were headed off to as far as California, Alabama, Georgia and New York.

The next auction at the farm is the 8th annual Spring Bull and Commercial Female sale and it will take place on April 28, 2007. The Riggs’ family has been raising Angus cattle since 1957, and in celebration of that 50 year milestone, they will host the Pennsylvania Angus and Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Field Day at their farm on August 4, 2007.

In addition to ErReR Hill Farms, Bill and Dan Riggs operate several other businesses including Lincoln Supply & Equipment, a successful retailer of agricultural, industrial and truck equipment. They commented, “We look forward to fulfilling our father’s goals and dreams in expanding these businesses, keeping jobs in Somerset County and making positive contributions to our community.”
