Southern Blackcap 3044, a prized Black Angus heifer was the top selling female at ErReR Hill Farms' fourth annual Angus Production Sale that took place on November 13th. Three Trees Ranch, an Angus breeder located in Sharpsburg, Georgia, purchased full interest in the heifer for $35,000. Southern Blackcap 3044, a powerful-bred heifer, was calved on January 6, 2003.
Over 150 people attended the auction that took place at the farm in Lincoln Township, PA. The auction, one of its only types in Somerset County, PA, featured Angus females from one of the oldest ongoing operations in the Keystone State. The sale was auctioneered by Col. Steve Dorran of Canada, and by the end of the afternoon, 78 head consisting of 46 lots were sold. The next sale event, the Fifth Performance Tested Angus Bull and Commercial Female Sale will take place on April 30, 2005.
ErReR Hill Farms, owned by Mr. Sidney W. Riggs, is a well-known and respected breeder. He has been raising Angus cattle for over 40 years and currently has 16 bulls leased to AI stud cooperatives. His registered and accredited Black Angus herd of cattle currently consists of approximately 120 bulls, 220 cows, and 150 replacement heifers.
